Nextgov Names James Hanson as Publisher
Hanson will be Nextgov’s first publisher, and will lead business development, product planning and client relations.
Longtime communications and events executive James Hanson has been tapped as Nextgov’s first publisher.
Hanson joins Nextgov from ConnellyWorks—where he managed public relations, marketing and three dozen events each year—and has 14 years of experience developing innovative marketing campaigns across the federal, defense, intelligence community, state and local markets. Hanson said it’s an exciting time for tech in government, given the Trump administration’s numerous initiatives and a series of high-impact policies and contracts that could impact government for decades to come.
“Nextgov is at the center of one of the most transformational times in government. Technology and innovation are shaping workplace efficiency and security, enhancing citizen and veteran services and supporting our warfighters’ mission,” said Hanson. “I’m excited to be a part of the team leading the conversation to help government technology decision-makers and influencers get the tools, services and ideas they need to accelerate the business and mission of government.”
Hanson’s hiring comes amid unprecedented growth for the government technology publication, which has doubled its monthly traffic in the past year.
“As Nextgov continues to grow, James is a proven innovator who can help connect companies with the needs of government,” said Government Executive Media Group Chief Executive Officer Tim Hartman. GEMG is Nextgov’s parent company, and launched the publication in 2007.
“His depth of experience leading companies into the government market will be invaluable to our team and the clients trying to reach government decision-makers,” Hartman added.
Hanson said one of his key duties in the new role will be acting as Nextgov’s brand evangelist in the federal community. He’ll also lead business development, product planning and client relationships for the government contractor community from Nextgov’s Washington, D.C. headquarters.
