*** Jerry Hogge, senior vice president and general manager of Military and Veterans Health Solutions at Leidos, has been tapped to serve as senior vice president of MITRE Public Sector. In the new post, Hogge will take a leading strategic role in MITRE's federally funded research and development centers operating in civilian agencies, including the Department of Health and Human Services and its components, the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Federal Aviation Administration and more.
*** The Commerce Department's National Telecommunications and Information Administration named Charles Cooper to be associate administrator of the agency's Office of Spectrum Management, beginning July 1. Cooper spent six years at the Federal Communications Commission where he directed radio frequency enforcement activities. NTIA is responsible for managing civilian agency spectrum holdings. Cooper will help the Commerce Department’s development of the National Spectrum Strategy.
*** Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) wants the Federal Aviation Administration to require the flight-data collecting black boxes mandated for fixed wing aircraft to be standard on helicopters. In a June 16 statement, Schumer urged the FAA to heed the National Transportation Safety Board's repeated calls to make flight data recorders standard safety equipment on helicopters. Schumer issued his statement a few days after a helicopter crashed on the roof of a midtown Manhattan high-rise.
