A champion for the Inupiat. Monet doesn’t report to the typical shareholders. Instead, he answers to the 14,300 Inupiat owners of the NANA Alaska Native corporation. At Akima, the holding company for NANA’s federal group, dividends have grown by 153 percent since 2014, and in 2019, Monet spearheaded several initiatives that grew dividends by 41 percent. His personal interest in the Inupiat also led him to champion the inclusion of native populations in discussions of Arctic issues related to infrastructure and national security through two symposia: “The Arctic and U.S. National Security” and “Impacts of an Ice-Diminishing Arctic on Naval and Maritime Operations.”
