Making modernization happen. Kent began 2019 managing the many IT complications that came with an extended government shutdown, and when the shutdown ended, she was directly involved with efforts to get feds paid quickly and accurately. Once government was back at work, she pushed forward with the administration's modernization plan by creating the Federal Data Strategy and a corresponding action plan and updating the Trusted Internet Connections policy and the Identity, Credential and Access Management Policy to increase the security of government systems. Kent also championed a governmentwide revamp of payroll systems called NewPay. (Kent stepped down as federal CIO this summer.)
