*** The Justice Department unsealed indictments Oct. 19 charging six Russian intelligence officers with cyberattacks aimed at disabling critical infrastructure in Ukraine, spearfishing campaigns against political institutions and media outlets in the Republic of Georgia, attacks on IT systems supporting the 2018 Winter Olympics, and other campaigns. The indictment covers the 2017 NotPetya malware attack. Assistant Attorney General John Demers said at a press conference announcing the indictments that Cisco's Talos Intelligence Group, Google, Facebook and Twitter helped investigators with their probe.
*** The Federal Communications Commission is looking for ways to authorize the clearing or sharing of spectrum in the 3.45-3.55 GHz band, currently in use by the Department of Defense for high-powered radar systems. The swath of mid-band spectrum is being tipped by the FCC in a proposed rulemaking as key to building out 5G infrastructure in the United States.
