Security sultan. During the pandemic, Greenwell responded to the exponential growth in telework by coordinating with system owners, often through the night, to increase capabilities for employees. He was an early advocate for deploying the Commercial Virtual Remote environment for over 1.1 million DOD personnel, the largest Microsoft Teams deployment in the world. He provided expert security oversight and used innovative approaches to reducing risk throughout the aggressive 30-day deployment. After CVR’s success, he sought to modernize DOD’s use of cloud, in part by employing a model that allows for rapid assessment of new services while leveraging commercial capabilities and adhering to DOD’s security requirements.
