Battling opioid addiction with data. Costantino developed the joint DOD and Department of Veterans Affairs opioid registry and Naloxone tool to help clinicians address opioid misuse among active-duty service members and veterans while also maintaining effective pain management practices. In 2020, he led the registry’s enhancement with a solution that automatically flags and validates patient risk scores, evaluates the effectiveness of opioid safety programs and shares relevant data, including medication history and opioid risk profiles for patients transitioning from active-duty to retired status. His planning, leadership and problem-solving skills maintained the methodology and integrity of the tools and helped improve pharmaceutical care through the use of health IT data.
