Making modernization happen. The Social Security Advisory Board established an IT Systems Expert Panel in 2019 to provide guidance on the Social Security Administration’s multi-year, $700 million IT modernization plan. Crawford provided essential staff support and often went above and beyond by finding new experts interested in speaking with the panel as part of its review. She also stepped in when the chairman was ill to prepare an initial draft of the group’s final report. Panel members were unanimous in their praise for Crawford and said the report and its positive impact on SSA’s modernization initiative would not have been possible without her.
