Politicians: They’re Just Like Us!
They experiment with low carb diets; they have embarassing hobbies; and apparently their Twitter accounts get hijacked by botnets too.
The Sunlight Foundation launched Politwoops Thursday, a ticker of deleted Tweets from national politicians’ Twitter accounts.
The big action Friday morning was with Rep. Bill Posey, R-Fla., whose account was evidently hacked by the most mundane of botnets.
This was no hacktivist going after Posey for his policy stances like the Tweeter who took over the account of Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, for his support of the Stop Online Piracy Act in January.
No, this was just one of those miracle weight loss system and OMG cute baby promoting botnets that went after Posey . . . well . . . because he was there. And probably because he doesn’t change his password often enough.
It’s a nice reminder of the leveling influence of the Internet where we’re all potential marks and potential shills. At least as long as everyone wants to know “How to Drop 20 lbs. of Fat in 30 Days.”
