Issa plans to talk Internet regulation on Reddit

Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., is turning to Reddit for advice and feedback on proposed legislation that would ban new Internet regulations for two years, his office said Tuesday.

The congressman plans to answer questions in one of the social networking site’s AMA, or “ask me anything,” sessions Wednesday morning.

Numerous politicians have turned to Reddit’s AMA’s to spark excitement in recent months, most notably President Obama who briefly brought the site to its knees in August.

Most of those visits have been broad ranging, though, not focused on a particular piece of legislation. Rep. Zoe Lofgren, D-Calif., turned to the site for advice on a bill related to domain name seizures earlier this month but she did not use the AMA function.

As of 5 p.m. Tuesday, the top voted comments on Issa’s post were about evenly divided between criticizing government attempts to regulate the Internet generally and criticizing Issa for his cosponsorship of the controversial Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act, which would give government investigators greater access to private networks.
