The agency will also release baseline social media metrics during a Tuesday event.

The General Services Administration plans to publicly release the application programming interface or API that runs its Federal Social Media Registry during a Social Media Week DC event Tuesday, according to a blog post.

People using the API will be able to curate the social information they receive from government based on keywords, hash tags and other categories rather than simply by following particular accounts.

The agency also plans to release a set of baseline metrics describing what agencies should pay attention to as they try to grow their social media presences. Metrics include the number of views a YouTube video receives and an agency’s followers on Twitter.

The noon event will be live streamed here.
