Merge the Dakotas and Ban Butterscotch Candies?

There’s more news today at the intersection of Comedy Central and government central.

On Tuesday, a Daily Show riff about the jailing of Egyptian comedian Bassem Youssef launched a Twitter fight between the U.S. Embassy in Cairo and Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi.

Later that day, U.S. comedian Daniel Tosh, host of the Comedy Central show Tosh.0 , took his routine to the White House site We the People with a series of comic petitions . The petitions gained enough signatures to go live on the site early Wednesday.

Tosh’s first petition urged the government to “pass a law to unite the Dakotas into one state.” The full text of that petition is “one boring, cold state.”

Other petitions asked the government to:

• Get rid of all coins. And $10’s and $50’s. And while you’re at it, get rid of butterscotch hard candies.
• Make Bed Bath & Beyond mark everything down 20% and stop mailing out those stupid big blue coupons.
• Grant instant U.S. citizenship to any Mexican who can make a killer fish taco , and
• Force Dave Chappelle to return to television.

All the petitions had about 2,500 signatures as of 9 a.m. Wednesday. But as of 10:20, the Bed Bath and beyond and Chappelle petitions had been removed, with the White House saying they were "in violation of our terms of participation." We the People petitions must earn 100,000 signatures for an official White House response.

The petitions were verified by Tosh’s Twitter account.
