A New One-Stop Shop for State-Level Mobile Apps

The association launched a catalog of state government mobile applications Monday featuring about 160 apps from 47 states. The goal is to give state officials a central resource to see what their peers are doing and to generate ideas for apps they might launch, NASCIO President and Nebraska CIO Brenda Decker said in a statement.
The catalog links to Web stores where users can download the state apps, not to a backend where they could piggyback off one another’s code.
Federal agencies have launched more than 100 citizen-facing mobile apps in recent years, but many mobile innovations have come from the state and local level where developers are bound by fewer regulations and can target apps to a smaller population’s needs.
