Video: Bioenergy and America’s Energy Future

Along with solar and wind power, bioenergy is gaining momentum as a viable choice in powering the country.

The Energy Department, along with Green Focus Films and BCS, Incorporated, have produced a documentary examining several innovators in the field of biofuels.

"It's very exciting to see new scientists and engineers who care passionately about the area of bioenergy," said Jonathan Male, director of bioenergy technologies at the Energy Department. "And I'm sure there are hundreds, thousands out there, who are on the cusp of finding out how they can have a profound impact in the field of bioenergy now and in the future." 

The film looks at people like MIT student Sara Volz, who as a high school senior won the Intel Science Talent Search for her research on algae as a biofuel source. Featured also are Jonathan Wolfson, co-founder and CEO of Solazyme, which provides fuel to the U.S. Navy for its planes and ships, and Bruce Nelson, a former NFL player turned owner of his 2,800-acre family farm, where he and his family grow corn for ethanol.
