This gives the phrase "butt-dialing" a whole new meaning.

Envision a future where smartphones can be controlled through a pair of jeans. Google is trying to make that idea a reality with something called Project Jacquard.

One of the tech giant's more experimental groups -- the Advanced Technology and Projects team -- has developed a sturdy, conductive yarn that can be woven into any fabric. The yarn, which senses touch and responds to very precise gestures, is controlled by a tiny chip that can be discretely sewn into a seam or a pocket.

With the right programming, a user could swipe a finger across a jacket sleeve or a pant leg to make a phone call, or just browse a device.

Google has now partnered with Levi's Jeans to move the technology out of the prototype phase and turn it into something consumers can actually wear.
