Facebook Hits New Milestone: 1 Billion People Used the Social Network on a Single Day
This represents about two-thirds of Facebook’s user base.
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said 1 billion people used the social network on the day of Aug. 24, setting a new milestone for the company.
This represents about two-thirds of Facebook’s user base. (The company reported 1.49 billion monthly active users as of June. At that time, the company said it had 968 million daily active users, which is calculated as an average over 30 days.)

As Quartz’s Dan Frommer reported in July, Facebook was on track to reach 1 billion daily active users this quarter or next.
“When we talk about our financials, we use average numbers, but this is different,” said Zuckerberg. “This was the first time we reached this milestone, and it’s just the beginning of connecting the whole world.”
