On March 31, Come Talk Internet of Things with Nextgov
How is government coping with this new world of connectivity?
By the time you read this blog post, 21,000 new things will have been added to the Internet, and 24 hours from now, 10 million more devices, sensors and machines will be part of the Internet of Things – or IoT for short.
From Fitbits to refrigerators that tell you you’re low on groceries, the IoT is already a big deal for consumers: McKinsey suggests IoT’s global impact on the economy may be $6.2 billion by 2025.
But how is government coping with this new world of connectivity?
That will be our main topic of discussion on Thursday, March 31, as we host our third Tech & Tequila meetup at 1776 DC.
Beginning at 5:45 p.m., we’ll talk about the host of challenges and opportunities facing government in IoT, with a particular emphasis on Congress’ efforts to get ahead. We’ll also discuss the myriad security issues inherent in a world, where everything – and the kitchen sink – is connected to the Internet, and what that means for government.
Our speakers for the evening are:
- Marty Trevino, subject matter expert for business intelligence and strategy, Defense Department, and senior scientist, NEXUS-X;
- Jamie Susskind, legislative counsel for Sen. Deb Fischer; and
- Kara van Stralen, policy adviser for Sen. Cory Booker
