Video: This Self-Driving Car Works in Total Darkness
No headlights required.
Driving without headlights normally sounds like a terrible idea, but Ford is demonstrating that its self-driving test vehicles can function in complete darkness.
How does it work? The car processes data from 3-D maps to determine where the road is and will also use lasers to keep track of objects around the car.
It will be awhile before users can take a ride in total darkness, however. Ford is still conducting tests on closed courses.
