Harvard researchers have managed to perfect the process of photosynthesis: Their man-made leaf takes in water and sunlight and produces liquid fuel. The fuel produced could be used in its own right, but combining the man-made leaf with photovoltaic systems could make solar energy even more efficient.
Though the man-made leaf isn't available for purchase yet, some day soon you could buy your own fuel in your backyard.
