Cyber Review Results Coming Soon

Results and recommendations of the Obama administration's 60-day cyber review will be revealed in the next few days, perhaps as early as Tuesday, said Melissa Hathaway, senior director for cyberspace for the National Security and Homeland Security councils.

On Thursday, Hathaway addressed the Intelligence and National Security Alliance, an organization of intelligence experts from industry and academia that contributed recommendations during the review. During her speech she noted that all input provided during the 60-day review would be made available under the Freedom of Information Act, and posted to the Internet.

Beyond a repeat of the information she provided at the RSA security conference in April, Hathaway said previous attempts by the federal government to address cybersecurity "have failed," because of poor oversight that is distributed across too many agencies, and misconceptions that a secure cyberspace required some sacrifice of innovation, privacy or civil liberties. In reality, she said, all of these concepts can be mutually reinforcing.
