As promised, federal CIO Vivek Kundra unveiled OMB's dashboard application for monitoring federal IT projects this morning at the Personal Democracy Forum Conference in New York City. We noted yesterday that the application would be one of the features of the newly redesigned USASpending.gov , which the White House re-launched last night.

The new site has the same look and feel as Recovery.gov and other Obama Administration sites, but the new visualization tools are a definite improvement. It's now possible with just a few clicks to see how much money an agency has invested in IT projects and what percentage of those projects are behind schedule or over budget. A quick glance at the overview shows that 66 percent of federal IT investments are considered "Normal", while 16 percent "Need Attention" and 18 percent demonstrate "Significant Concerns" based on agencies Exhibit 300 submissions. I've been told that other portions of the budget will soon receive the same treatment.

We'll be playing around with the tool all day so please feel free to submit your own thoughts in the comment section.
