FDA, That's an Apple, as in iMac

Blogger MG Siegler at Tech Crunch recently wrote the delivery -- or lack thereof -- of his new Apple iMac computer. It seems was held up in Louisville, Ky., because UPS, which was delivering the package, said it had filed documents with the Food and Drug Administration and the Agriculture Department to get approval. Did the word "apple" confuse the agencies?

There's a lot of blame leveled at FDA and USDA, but it's not clear what UPS' role is in this. Some commenters on the blog post believe the shipment was held up for USDA to check for bugs -- that's in the legged variety, not software glitches -- that may have held up the shipment, which originated in China.

maybe some of our government readers can provide MG with an explanation. As is the case with many of these stories, there usually is a logical explanation. But in the meantime, it makes for great theater.
