NASA Computer Sale Snafu
Can you say oops? NASA, which is in the midst of selling off excess property as it winds down its space shuttle program, sold 10 computers without ensuring highly sensitive data had been removed.
An internal audit by NASA's inspector general found an additional four computers, which were about to be sold, that contained sensitive information, including one with data restricted under arms control rules.
The lapses happened at four NASA centers: the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, Johnson Space Center in Texas, Ames Research Center in California and Langley Research Center in Virginia.
The IG report noted auditors found computers prominently displaying NASA Internet Protocol information being prepared for sale at the Kennedy Space Center.
We'll have more on this tomorrow.
