NASA Has An App for That

NASA put a man on the moon in 1969, and this week, the agency launched an application for Android phones.

The new application, the NASA Spinoff App for Android is available for download and includes a feed of the agency's latest technology news, a searchable database of NASA-derived innovations, a map of spinoff locations, a historical timeline and a database of NASA's available licensing opportunities to inspire future spinoffs.

"Since our creation in 1958, we've sought to solve the many challenges of space, aviation and exploration through innovation, invention and engineering solutions," wrote Jason Townsend, a NASA web producer, in a Tuesday blog post. "We've met these challenges head-on by the hundreds, if not thousands. And now we've created a new way to explore each and every one of NASA's Spinoffs -- or innovations created for our nation's space program now in use in your everyday lives."

Townsend said additional apps for the Android, iPhone, and iPad are in the works.
