GAO Launches iPhone, iPad App

The Government Accountability Office unveiled an iPhone and iPad application on Tuesday that links to mobile versions of all its reports, podcasts, videos and congressional testimony.

The watchdog agency created the app because more people were visiting online versions of its reports and testimonies on smartphones and tablets, according to an emailed press release.

The agency launched a mobile version of its website in 2010.

The app includes a search tool that appears to be very functional. Because the search is only chronological, it would be difficult to look for older reports on popular topics.

"GAO is committed to ensuring that our work is as accessible as possible, both to Congress and to the public," GAO chief Gene Dodaro said in a statement. "On Capitol Hill and beyond, our users are increasingly accessing our work from their mobile devices. The GAO app will help them get the information they need when and where they need it."
