Texts From Hillary Quits While It's Ahead
Looking for tips for a well-managed meme? One might be quitting while you're ahead.
The folks over at Texts From Hillary bowed out gracefully Wednesday, a day after the Secretary herself submitted an entry in which she told the site creators she was "ROFL @ ur tumblr!"
Clinton also invited creators Stacy Lambe and Adam Smith to the State Department Tuesday and signed a paper copy of her submission to the popular Tumblr blog: "Thanks for the many LOLZ Hillary 'Hillz," the Associated Press reported.
"Is it really possible to top a submission from the Secretary herself?" Lambe and Smith asked in a final post Wednesday.
"No," they answered, "when you get to text with her in real life -- it's just over. At least for us."
The popular blog launched April 4 after two press photos went viral of a serious-faced Clinton wearing a black suit and sunglasses while checking her Blackberry on a crowded diplomatic plane.
The photos were taken when Clinton was on her way to Libya in October, the Associated Press reported.
Submissions to the blog paired the secretary with other diplomatic, political and entertainment luminaries, usually with Hillary getting the best of them.
In one post, Clinton tells an eager-for-praise Sarah Palin the two women simply aren't in the same league. In another she tells the lachrymose House Speaker John Boehner he reminds her of a crying baby in a neighboring hotel room the night before. In one particularly suggestive post, Clinton responds to a text from former Rep. Anthony Weiner, D-N.Y., with "Is that it?"
During the week it was live, Texts from Hillary received 83,000 Facebook shares, 8,400 Twitter followers and over 45,000 Tumblr followers, the creators said.
Lambe and Smith will leave the site up but won't be accepting new submissions, they said. The two are communications professionals based in Washington, the AP reported.
