The White House touted the 2014 State of the Union as the "most social" such speech in history. Obama referenced tech startups early in his remarks and touted cybersecurity by saying that the U.S. continues to "combat new threats like cyberattacks."

Obama also referenced the NSA program, albeit subtly, in saying that he is interested in using surveillance in the most effective way while not violating privacy.

I will reform our surveillance programs – because the vital work of our intelligence community depends on public confidence, here and abroad, that the privacy of ordinary people is not being violated.
