A military satellite network that will give coalition forces in Iraq access to network-centric services took another step forward recently. Lockheed Martin Integrated Systems Inc. signed a $7 million contract with ViaSat Inc. for satellite communications equipment.

The network will use commercial satellite to provide secure voice and data services, and voice over IP to integrate telephone and data on a common network. ViaSat is to provide a network hub and 20 remote terminals.
