IRS to use Symark software

Internal Revenue Service officials announced this month they intend to acquire 25 site licenses and training for password security monitoring software from Symark Software Inc.

Symark's PowerPassword will be used to strengthen the confidentiality, integrity and availability of information stored on the agency's Unix servers, according to the sole-source announcement.

As a tool for helping systems administrators centrally manage log-in and password policies, the Symark software performs functions such as resetting and synchronizing passwords, disabling inactive accounts and auditing login activity centrally. The software includes a C-like scripting language for creating log-in policies.
