Navy financial system upgrades saluted

The financial management division of the Naval Supply Systems Command is reaping the rewards of its financial transformation efforts.The NAVSUP financial management transformation was recently recognized across the entire Defense Department when the division won three separate awards.The financial division has won the American Society of Military Comptrollers Meritorious Team Achievement Award; the Assistant Secretary of the Navy Financial Team, Echelon 2 Award; and the Under Secretary of Defense Financial Management Initiative Award.Within a year, 14 field comptroller officers were consolidated into four sites, saving 33 percent within the NAVSUP financial community, officials said. “The key to the effort was minimizing manual efforts through automation. Improvement and consolidation of several financial management processes and accomplishing this without delaying the process or imposing undue requirements on personnel was critical to a successful implementation,” according to a NAVSUP release.Today the financial directorate of NAVSUP has integrated systems to allow management from remote sites, while also centralizing document control and approval tasks.
