DFAS rolls out upgraded financial management system

The Defense Finance and Accounting Service has deployed an upgraded financial management system that is expected to reduce annual information processing costs by $11.1 million, or 56 percent.The upgraded Defense Industrial Financial Management System, which was fully deployed on July 18, has been rehosted to a current IBM- and Sun-based platform for increased capability, reliability and cost, according to Zack E. Gaddy, director of DFAS.DIFMS was upgraded from a proprietary Unisys system, according to a Pentagon news release. “The upgraded system provides our customers a higher-quality product at a greater value,” Gaddy said. He added that the system would reduce the time it took to finish large batch processes.The system supports the Defense Working Capital Fund and provides service to the Navy and Air Force.
