Planning for blade servers
Think about power consumption and heat generation.
Plan for different power consumption patterns. Blade servers consume about the same amount of power as other servers, but because of aggregated and shared power and cooling of the blade chassis, the system is more power efficient than the same number of stand-alone servers. This means, however, that you will be packing more computing power — and thus more
power drain — into the same space.
l Consider heat generation. Like power consumption, the overall heat that blades create is no more than similar servers, but the heat density will be higher. Assess the ability of your air-handling scheme to dissipate the expected heat if it is generated in a smaller package.
