Aeris.net expands machine-to-machine communication

Officials at Aeris.net, a company that provides technology for machine-to-machine wireless telematics and telemetry, have acquired two services from another company, Wireless Car North America Inc., which will expand Aeris' services to several new networks.

Machine-to-machine communication facilitates action with no human intervention needed. One example, company officials said, could be sensors that transmit real-time readings to a remote office, where a computer triggers specific actions based on the sensor data.

Aeris.net's acquisition of t-Connect and t-Data from Wireless Car allows Aeris officials to expand their services to several networks, including General Packet Radio Service and Code Division Multiple Access 2000. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Aeris.net can provide service wherever there is cellular service of any kind, said Dick Gossen, president and chief executive officer. Aeris uses microburst technology to send data packets in real time without needing high bandwidth.

Gossen said the company has some government business and is about to begin aggressively marketing to government agencies, both federal and state or local. "We've never really gone after it the way we're about to now," he said.
