DigitalNet wins US-VISIT work

DigitalNet LLC won a contract to provide fingerprint identification services for two facilities related to the U.S. Visitor and Immigrant Status Indicator Technology (US-VISIT) program.

If all contract options are exercised, the Homeland Security Department would pay the company up to $25 million over five years for work at the Western Identification Network in San Diego and the Biometrics Support Center in Washington, D.C. The award, essentially a recompete, is DigitalNet's third US-VISIT contract.

Using technology and biometrics such as digital fingerprints and photographs, US-VISIT officials hope to accelerate the process of matching visitors' identities to their travel documents.

Officials' goal for the test program is to determine a flexible exit system that matches the efforts of other DHS agencies, port authorities and the travel industry. DigitalNet provides the services of 39 full-time fingerprint identification specialists to conduct comparisons of fingerprints when prints are smudged or incomplete, which happens to about 10 percent of them.
