Forest Service to use AT&T backbone

AT&T Government Solutions won a two-year contract to provide a high-speed backbone network for the Agriculture Department's Forest Service.

Forest Service officials are trying to increase their network capabilities while reducing costs, according to AT&T officials. The new network will link 20 sites in the continental United States, Alaska and Puerto Rico.

Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Company officials also announced a $7.5 million contract to upgrade the National Gallery of Art's Collections Management System, which museum officials use to retrieve data about the collection.
