Three win Air Force computer deals

Officials at the Air Force's Headquarters Standard Systems Group awarded contracts to three small businesses earlier this month to provide desktop, notebook and server computers.

The winners include iGov, NCS Information Systems and Westwood Computer. Officials at the Air Force's information technology acquisition organization awarded similar contracts in October to Dell, Gateway, Hewlett-Packard and MPC, according to an industry official familiar with the situation.

The five-year, blanket purchase agreement contracts awarded Dec. 6 mean Air Force officials will buy only nonruggedized computers from the seven companies. The contracts coincide with the service's initiative to streamline the configurations of hardware.

Air Force officials plan to start using the contracts this week for the service's first quarterly computer buy for fiscal year 2005, according to a Dec. 14 statement from iGov. "We are very pleased to be expanding our relationship with the Air Force," said Robert McCann, vice president of sales at the McLean, Va.-based company.

Air Force officials awarded blanket purchase agreement contracts earlier this year to six companies to provide system accessories and ruggedized devices. Winners included GTSI, Insight Public Sector, Intelligent Decision Systems, Technology Integration Group, World Wide Technology and Westwood Computer.
