SAIC markets with Telkonet

Science Applications International Corp. has entered a co-marketing arrangement with Telkonet, a Germantown, Md. company whose products provide broadband Internet access through a building's electrical wiring.

SAIC and Telkonet will pursue opportunities with the Air Force, Defense Department and other federal agencies. In addition, Telkonet will install its powerline communications solution in SAIC's Public Safety Integration Center. The deal was announced May 3.

The relationship allows Telkonet to demonstrate its products in the McLean,Va.-based center, which is open to local, state and federal government personnel, according to an SAIC spokesman. Twenty-two vendors currently are housed in the center, including Motorola and Nextel. The purpose of the center is to not only demonstrate products, but to show how different technologies can be integrated to support first responders, the spokesman said.

Telkonet's powerline communications products are designed for use in situations where conventional connectivity via hard-wired CAT5 cabling or wireless LAN technology is unfeasible, according to Telkonet.

Telkonet's main markets are government agencies, apartment and condominium complexes, and hotels. In government, Telkonet in February announced a marketing agreement with GTSI. The company also has worked with Electronic Data Systems.
