Saflink, Microsoft work on mobile security

Saflink this week disclosed an agreement with Microsoft in which the companies will provide a mobile security solution that supports federal requirements.

Saflink has delivered the first version of the software called for under the agreement. The software, based on the company's NetSign CAC smart card middleware, was developed specifically for use with Microsoft’s Windows Mobile 5.0 for Pocket PCs, according to Saflink. The software will be sold as part of a mobile solution that includes Axcess Technology mobile smart card readers.

Saflink said the solution meets the mobile computing requirements of the Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12 credentialing policy and Federal Information Processing Standard 201.

Jeff Affuso, president of Saflink’s public sector division, said sales to government agencies will include direct selling and systems integrators. Initially, sales will be direct, he said. There are several interested customers likely to pursue pilot deployments, Affuso said.

The company will broaden the sales effort to include integrators, once the product gains traction among federal customers, he said. Earlier this month, the company launched its Channel Partner Program to work with resellers and integrators.
