GTSI adds outdoor wireless to contracts

GTSI has agreed to resell LightPointe's high-speed outdoor wireless products, adding the company's solutions to four contract vehicles. Government buyers can now use GTSI's NASA Scientific, Engineering and Workstation Procurement [SEWP) III, the National Institutes of Health's Electronic Commodity Store III, the US Communities or the Air Force NetCents contract.

LightPointe's Flight family of products use beams of light to transmit and receive data, which cannot be tapped or detected. Flight's point-to-point products are suited for connecting buildings across an enterprise campus, for example. Bob Preston, LightPointe's senior vice president and chief marketing officer, said they provide connectivity similar to that offered by fiber optics between two or more local area networks.

From GTSI's standpoint, the products enable users to connect their networks without the cost of leasing connections from carriers or burying their own cables, said Jim Biggs, practice manager of GTSI's satellite, telecommunications and power enterprise technology practice.

LightPointe's enterprise products provide full-duplex transmission speeds of 100 Mbps (Fast Ethernet) and 1.25 Gbps (Gigabit Ethernet) at distances from 500 meters to 5,000 meters, according to the company.
