Army comms unit backs FEMA, DOD
93rd Signal Brigade to provide voice, video and data communications for Katrina relief.
The Army’s 93rd Signal Brigade deployed soldiers Aug. 31 to provide communications support for relief efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
The brigade’s 67th Signal Battalion will offer secure and nonsecure voice, data and videoconferencing services to the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Defense Department’s Joint Task Force at Camp Shelby, Miss., about 100 miles north of New Orleans, according to a Sept. 1 Army statement.
The brigade falls under the Army’s Network Enterprise Technology Command/9th Army Signal Command at Fort Huachuca, Ariz. Command officials said in the statement that they expect the brigade’s mission to expand significantly to support relief efforts.
