Army doubles Savi RFID contracts
Army increases contract for active radio frequency identification tags and readers used to track supplies delivered to Iraq.
The Army plans to more than double the value of its contract with Savi Technology from $207.9 million to $424.5 million for active radio frequency identification tags, readers and services to support tracking supplies for the Iraq war.
The Army’s Information Technology, E-Commerce and Commercial Contracting Center (ITEC4) said it also plans a two-year extension of the Savi active RFID contract, mirroring a similar move last September when ITEC4 boosted the value of the Savi deal from $90 million to $207 million.
Active, battery-powered RFID tags used by the Army have a range of 300 feet compared with a range of 33 feet for passive RFID tags, which the Defense Department plans to use throughout its supply chain.
In August, Savi won a blanket purchase agreement contract from ITEC4 to provide technical engineering services and integration software for all military branches trying to meet passive RFID tag policy requirements.
