Ericsson buys Marconi Federal
Soon to be called Ericsson Federal, the new organization will combine Marconi's presence in the federal government with Ericsson's capabilities in mobile telecom and systems integration.
Ericsson has acquired Marconi Communications Federal in an effort to deepen its reach into the U.S. federal market.
The organization, which will change its name to Ericsson Federal, will combine Marconi's strength in the federal market with Ericcson's expertise in wireless and systems integration, according to an Ericsson announcement. The unit will be a wholly owned subsidiary of Ericsson.
Ericsson Federal will be headquartered in Columbia, Md., with offices in Vienna, Va.; Chambersburg, Pa.; and San Diego.
Ralph Havens, former president of Marconi, will lead Ericcson Federal. Doug Smith will remain in place as vice president and general manager of Ericsson's existing government unit.
