GIS firm extends government reach
The company will try to sell its geographic information system products and services to federal and state customers after finding success among counties and cities.
Smart Data Strategies, which specializes in geographic information systems, aims to extend its government presence through a newly awarded General Services Administration schedule contract.
The Franklin, Tenn., company focused largely on county and city governments for much of its history. But the 17-year-old company believes its GIS products and services are applicable to state and federal customers, too, and has decided to pursue those markets accordingly.
“It was just a natural extension of our government market,” said Tim Garrett, vice president of sales and marketing at Smart Data Strategies. He oversees the company’s federal business. The schedule, Garrett added, “was the best way to be accommodating to the market and foster our growth in the federal arena.”
In addition to providing a purchasing vehicle for federal buyers, the company’s GSA schedule pact lets many state and local agencies buy its products, according to the company. Smart Data Strategies’ offerings include its DREAMaps land records management software, systems integration, training and GIS data conversion services.
