McAfee wins Air Force task order

The Air Force has selected McAfee to install a global network intrusion-prevention system. The Air Force Combat Information Transport System program office awarded the task order through prime contractor Booz Allen Hamilton under the Air Force Network-Centric Solutions contract. The service did not release financial terms.

The Air Force will use McAfee’s IntruShield network intrusion-prevention system and McAfee IntruShield security manager appliances to safeguard the Air Force’s worldwide nonclassified and classified networks, according to a company statement.

Under the task order, McAfee will install its IntruShield enterprise-class technology at Air Force intranet gateways worldwide. The installation will protect the networks from encryption attacks, spyware, malware, voice-over-IP vulnerabilities, phishing, worms and other threats.

The Air Force will also deploy the McAfee IntruShield Security Manager, a preconfigured, plug-and-play appliance that blocks hundreds of network threats and attacks.

“As the Department of Defense exploits the capabilities of network-centric operations, it becomes ever more critical to protect the integrity of the Global Information Grid network,” said Mike Carpenter, vice president of federal operations at McAfee.
