N.Y. county chooses Salient for Medicaid

Albany County, N.Y., has inked a deal with Salient to install the company's software for Medicaid management and fraud control. The county is the fourth in New York to use Salient's software. The other counties are Chemung, Onondaga and Monroe. Albany County officials will use the software to identify opportunities for cost and service efficiency within Medicaid. In Albany County, the Salient Performance Management solution will provide real-time access to transactional and select nontransactional program data, according to the company. This access will let administrators identify opportunities for cost savings and operational efficiency. Administrators will also be able to detect questionable activity, Salient said. The company's Microsoft Windows-based application runs on the user's desktop computer and extracts data from the eMedNY data warehouse, a Salient spokeswoman said. Albany County is one of 12 counties participating in the state's Medicaid Fraud Demonstration Program. That test program grants counties "expanded authority to investigate allegations of Medicaid fraud, waste and abuse by health care providers," according to the state's Medicaid Integrity Plan.
