Bush to name Harris chief to advisory committee

President Bush intends to appoint Howard Lance, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Harris, to the National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee, according to an announcement from the government communications and information technology company.The committee is composed of industry chief executives representing major communications and network service providers and IT, finance, and aerospace companies. It provides industry-based advice and expertise to the president and his Cabinet on issues related to implementing national security and emergency preparedness communications policy, Harris said.Since its inception in 1982, the committee has addressed a wide range of policy and technical issues regarding communications, information systems, information assurance, critical infrastructure protection and other national security and emergency preparedness communications concerns.“It is an honor to be appointed by the president to serve on this important advisory committee,” Lance said in a statement. “I hope to bring the breadth of Harris Corp.’s expertise in assured communications and information technology to issues affecting national security and our nation’s emergency preparedness.”Lance joined Harris in January 2003 as president and CEO, and was appointed chairman in June 2003. He also serves on the board of governors of the Aerospace Industries Association and is a director of Eastman Chemical.Lance will be sworn-in later this month, Harris said.
