Va. utilities agency to create geodatabase
Avineon also has to develop data models for each utility and a data maintenance application for the Department of Public Utilities in Richmond.
The Department of Public Utilities in Richmond, Va., has awarded a geographic-information system conversion contract to Avineon, an information technology services provider.
The data conversion project will focus on the agency’s gas, water, wastewater and street lighting systems. The project, according to Avineon, will create an integrated geodatabase using ESRI’s ArcGIS software. Avineon’s task also spans the development of data models for each utility, a data maintenance application and an application that will generate a paper map from the geodatabase.
Avineon’s subcontractors on the GIS deal are EMA and Mansai. EMA’s background includes GIS consulting and application development for municipal customers. Mansai provides IT professionals to a range of customers.
GIS is one of four services and solutions areas at Avineon. The company’s GIS customer base includes the Tucson, Ariz., Water Department; the Palm Beach County, Fla., Department of Environmental Resources Management; and the South Florida Water Management District.
