Letter: TWIC troubles are greater than at first glance
Implementation of Transportation Workers Identification Credential standard at port is not a smooth process, as one reader notes that being enrolled and having a card are two different things.
Regarding "Panel finds TWIC riddled with problems": I enrolled (and my employer paid the substantial enrollment fee) in early February. It is now late September and I still have no TWIC card.
The issue relates to the readability of my biometric data and, most recently, I was told the issue would be resolved and I would have my card no later than the end of July. I have quit worrying about it, but our port implementation of the TWIC standard credential is scheduled for December 2008. It will be interesting to see what happens since about many of our port employees are experiencing the same issue. I believe the problem is much greater than indicated in the article. The enrolled vs. cardholder data in the article supports our experience of about a 30-percent problem rate.
