Federal 100: Alfred Rivera

Rivera implemented the Defense Department’s first cloud computing initiative, the Rapid Access Computing Environment. It provides on-demand, dynamically provisioned Web services built on standard Linux and Microsoft Windows platforms for test and production environments.

RACE allows DOD organizations to provision Web services in a secure environment at a DOD data center and electronically pay for those services. RACE will continue to evolve and eventually will be deployed to DOD’s classified network.

“Alfred Rivera has been a true change champion for the DOD team,” said David Wennergren, a deputy assistant secretary of Defense and DOD’s deputy chief information officer. “Not only is he technically gifted but his innovative spirit and dedication have made the vision of a Rapid Access Computing Environment a reality for the department.”
