Federal 100: Casey Coleman
Casey Coleman
CIO
General Services Administration
The work: Leading development and execution of GSA’s Drive to the Cloud strategy.
The impact: Thanks to Coleman’s efforts, GSA was one of the first large government agencies to implement cloud-based applications for e-mail, collaboration and productivity.
The nuts and bolts: Coleman’s vision, business case development and skill at getting executive buy-in facilitated the agency’s move to cloud-based capabilities with Google Apps for Government and Salesforce.com as the foundation. The security controls used in GSA’s deployment of those tools have been applied to the governmentwide program for cloud security, and her approach has served as a model for federal, state and local agencies as they pursue cloud technology and other IT cost-reduction efforts.
